An advanced Variable Refrigerant Volume Air Conditioning System with a wide product offering to suit the HVAC requirements of larger buildings

Daikin's VRV III Heat Pump system has been design to deliver cost-effective air-conditioning to even the largest buildings with outdoor units that can extend air-conditioning capacity up to 147kW. 

Utilizing the latest advances in refrigeration and air-conditioning technology the Daikin Inverter compressor system delivers improved efficiency and performance whilst ensuring satisfaction of demands throughout connected zones across the complete operation cycle.  The system also allows up to 64 indoor fan coil units, a 200% connection index (applicable to single module system only), outside air treatment options and integrated controls, with BMS options and extended piping runs.  

  • Inverter Heat Pump units allow for either cooling or heating from a single system

  • Continuous operation -5 to 43°C Dry Bulb in cooling mode and -20 to 15.5°C Wet Bulb in heating mode
  • Daikin’s optimized scroll compressor designed specifically for R-410A provides quiet, reliable and energy-efficient operation
  • Daikin’s management and oil-equalizing technology ensures maximum reliability and flexibility for the VRV system, with piping lengths of up to 165m and a total networked length of up to 1,000m.
  • Anti-corrosion treatment is standard on exterior metal parts and heat exchanger
  • High External Static Pressure (ESP) of 78.4 Pa available on condenser fans
  • Brazed connections instead of flared connections to reduce the possibilty of refrigerant leakage
  • Fully compatible with the complete Daikin control suite including the Intelligent Touch Controller, the Intelligent Touch Manager, and the LonWorks® and BACnet® gateways

Night Time Quiet Operation

This function allows the user to reduce the operational noise of the outdoor system during night time operations in three distinct steps:

Step 1:  Reduces the noise level from 58dBA to 55dBA
Step 2:  Reduces the noise level from 58dBA to 50dBA
Step 3:  Reduces the noise level from 58dBA to 45dBA
(For a single outdoor unit)

The initiation of the Night Time Quiet Function can be enabled in any of the three modes described:

Mode 1 – Automatic Mode:  In automatic mode, the unit will memorise the time at which the peak temperature of the day occurred.  Eight hours from this time, the unit will automatically initiate low noise operation and remain in this mode for a period of ten hours before reverting to normal settings.    

Mode 2 – Manual Mode:  Manual mode allows the user to choose their own starting and ending times. 
Note:  an external control adaptor for the outdoor unit (DTA104A53/61/62) and a third party timer is required.

Mode 3. Combined mode:  Combinations of modes 1 and 2 can be used depending on your needs.


High Energy Efficiencies, EER & COP

High COP

Cooling operating conditions: Indoor temp. of 27°C DB, 19.0 °C WB, and outdoor temp. of 35°C DB.

Heating operating conditions: Indoor temp. of 20°C DB, and outdoor temp. of 7°C DB, 6°C WB.

Daikin's VRV III delivers high efficiency thanks to advanced features such as Daikin's advanced heat exchanger, aero grille and dual DC fans.

Double backup operation in compressors and units

If one of the multiple compressors in a single outdoor unit system malfunctions, the other compressors take over emergency operation*1.

If one of the unit in a multiple outdoor system malfunctions, the other outdoor units provide emergency operation*2 for a limited time to facilitate repairs.

Two Types of VRVIII Heat Pumps Are Available

Standard Model (Space Saving type)
Daikin VRV III outdoor units offer high capacity, up to 54 class (147 kW), to suit the requirements of even the largest buildings.  Daikin VRV III can be incorporated into a modular system, with two or more main units (up to 18 class (49 kW) each) combining to provide a single a high-capacity system (up to 54 class (147 kW)) that is compact, flexible and efficient.  Recently a 6 class (16 kW) model has been added to the VRVIII outdoor unit range.  Our standard model offers a comparatively small footprint, reducing the required plant area for a given installation without compromising on performance or energy efficiency.

High Efficiency Model (Energy Saving Type)
High efficiency models build on the already high energy efficiency of Daikin's standard models by integrating two or more outdoor units into a single system, giving you the flexibility to fine tune your air conditioning solution to your exact output requirements and deliver even greater energy efficiency as demanded by today's energy conscious environment.

Since the launch of the first Daikin Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) air conditioner in 1982, Daikin has invested heavily in research and development, leading the way in technology and air conditioning innovation.  The result is a total VRV air conditioning solution with large outdoor capacities, simplified installation and greater energy efficiency than ever before.

Improved Fans and grilles:  Daikin VRV-III achieves a high 78.4 Pa external static pressure thanks to reduced internal pressure loss and the use of Daikin's proprietary fans and grilles.


Aero spiral fan and aero asymmetrical fan:  With the introduction of the VRV III range, Daikin increased the surface area of each fan blade and optimised blade design to suit each casing, reducing pressure loss and providing higher external static pressure.

Aero Smooth Grille

Daikin's Aero Smooth Grille is used across the entire VRV-III range.  These three-dimensional, woven steel grilles are designed to facilitate smooth, low turbulence airflow.  A durable fire resistant coating protects them from damage or corrosion.

Heat Exchanger:  With a 7-10% effective length increase over previous models, the larger effective area of Daikin's VRV-III heat exchanger is a key factor behind VRV-IIIs high COP.  Further performance gains have been achieved through the use of an optimised e-Pass heat exchanger.

Reluctance DC scroll compressor:  Daikin's Scroll Compressors are quieter and more efficient than conventional compressors thanks to their heat-loss minimising high pressure dome construction and the use of high pressure lubrication oil to reduce thrust losses.  Combined with a high efficiency Neodymium motor, these features result in improved efficiency and reduced operating noise levels.

Powerful Magnets:  Daikin motors use Neodymium magnets.  10 times stronger than conventional ferrite, Neodymium means Daikin motors can efficiently deliver more torque.

High speed:  Daikin's high-performance, low-noise scroll compressor can operate at a faster rate thanks to advanced stress analysis during the design process for increased strength and oil film control in the high thrust mechanism*.

High Thrust Mechanism:  By introducing high pressure oil, the reactive force from the fixed scroll is added to the internal force, reducing thrust losses, improving efficiency and suppressing noise.

Heat Transfer circuit:  By sub-cooling refrigerant before expansion, the refrigerant volume required by the indoor units can be reduced without lowering the evaporation temperature.  This permits the use of narrower piping for easier, less intrusive installation.

Compact Aero Box:  By stacking inverter and control PCB's and optimising internal design for airflow speed, Daikin engineers have reduced the overall size, operating noise output and most importantly, power requirements for the large-diameter fanned outdoor unit.

Smooth Sine Wave DC Inverter:  Sine wave operation results in smoother motor rotation, lowering operating noise levels and improving energy efficiency.

DC Fan Motor:  Used across Daikin's entire VRV-III range, (5 - 54 class (14 - 147 kW)), DC Fan Motors can deliver efficiency gains of up to 40% over conventional motors, especially at low speeds.
